In our latest Craft Takeover, Jen Walker (The Gingerthread Girl) stopped by to learn how to use our Iron-On heat transfer vinyl.
Products used in the takeover:
It was a lovely Friday Morning and we had The lovely Ginger Thread Girl in the Happy Fabric Studio to visit. Hayley received a lovely message from Jenny about how she had managed to bag herself some Spice Girl Tickets to their upcoming concert and wanted to create some personalised t-shirts for her and her girlfriends. We had to get in on the Girl Power so invited Jen to come and spend the day with us.
The lovely Jen was like a breath of fresh air in the studio. She is a Happy Fabric superfan and has been following us on instagram from the early days, so it was so lovely reminiscing with her about old projects I had created - like the Love island Classic ‘100% Loyal Babes’. If you missed these, don’t worry there will be plenty of new love island projects coming up. I’m a big fan! Hehehe.
So Jen had told us she wanted to create t-shirts for herself and her girlfriends ready for the concert. She didn’t want them to be the classic sparkly concert tee, but something that could be worn again. Jen’s style is very much like ours in term of who she looks to for inspiration. So, of course, the tees needed to look as if they could be sold in Oliver Bonas. While Jen was here she also wanted to learn how to use the silhouette cutter and our amazing heat presses. So this was a perfect opportunity to show her how everything worked.
We started by deciding on colours and wording for the tees. Jen wanted them all to be the same and then with a slight personal touch as each of her friend has the characteristics of a different spice girl which was handy. The 5 of them make up the whole group. So as feminism is a hot topic we thought ‘GIRL POWER’ might be quite a good slogan for the front of the tee. That way this wouldn’t look dated and could be worn after the concert too. Then in a more handwritten font we cut each spice girls name to go across the back at the top of the shoulders. This looked super effective and VERY Oliver Bonas.
All the text was designed and cut on the Silhouette Cameo which was a lifesaver when it came to saving time. Jen very much enjoyed using the Happy Press 3 and found it super easy to get the designs in place. After creating one tee Jen was completely hooked and cracked on with the others. By the end she was an absolute Heat Pressing Pro! We love to see how much people enjoy using the cutters and presses when they realise how easy they are to use and how much time and effort it can save. Be sure to check them out for yourself.
We are so so jealous that Jen and her Girlies will be partying up at the Spice Girls Concert and we hope that they have the best time ever!
We would love to see everyone’s different Spice inspired tees ready for their upcoming concerts! There are so many amazing lyrics that could make a great tee. Here are some to get your juices flowing if you are struggling for ideas…
