Christmas Pyjama How-To

No Christmas is complete without some cute pyjamas to wear. This winter, you can keep cosy in your very own snuggly set, with some super sweet Happy Fabric (heat transfer vinyl) detailing!

In this blog post, we’ll reveal how we turned these plain PJs into a wonderful wintery penguin themed pyjama set.

You will need:

  1. HappyFlock in Signal Red (A4 sheet)
  2. HappyFlex in White (A4 sheet)
  3. HappyFlex in Black (A4 sheet)
  4. Free Penguin Template
  5. Card/ paper, scissors, pen and iron (or heat press)
  • Firstly, we hand drew a penguin! The exact drawing by Hayley is available for you to download as a template here.
  • We then cut this out to use as a template for the vinyl. Using a pen, Hayley drew around the template on to the back of the vinyl sheets (the non-shiny side) and cut all the pieces out by hand- making sure to cut off all pen marks to stop them transferring when the vinyl is pressed.

TIP: When drawing and cutting the hat, ensure that you flip the template over before drawing around it (so that it is leaning the correct way when the vinyl is pressed). Using an iron at the two-dot setting (or a heat press at 150), pre-press the pyjama pocket and area that the vinyl will be placed; this is to remove all creases and any moisture that might be hiding in your fabric.

  • Place the first layer of the penguin (the White HappyFlex body) onto the pocket in the desired position. Carefully (so not to move the vinyl) cover this with greaseproof paper.
  • Press down firmly with your iron (or use a heat press) for ten to fifteen seconds.

TIP: No need to wiggle or move the iron- this could move or alter your design!

  • Remove greaseproof paper and allow vinyl to cool for around 5 seconds. Once cool, you can peel back the shiny plastic carrier to reveal the smooth finish of the HappyFlex- this can now be layered up with the rest of your design!
  • Arrange the wings, eyes and beak on top of the body and cover with greaseproof paper.
  • Press again for 10 seconds.
  • Remove the greaseproof paper and wait for the vinyl to cool. Once cool, peel the carrier off of all the features of the penguin.
  • For the Santa hat, add only the White strip onto the penguin’s head and repeat pressing process (add greaseproof paper, press, remove carrier).
  • Lastly, add the hat and hat bobble (taking car not to overlap the hat and bobble) and repeat pressing process.
  • After peeling off the last carriers, your pyjamas are ready!
